On a recent trip to Mexico my friend and I were trying to cross a street, but a cop was blocking it and wouldn't let us cross. Then we looked down the street and saw a PARADE coming! I think it was for the All Saints Day celebration, because it was that time of the year, but we couldn't really tell. All the floats were people-powered (great idea; an eco-friendly parade,) and most were papier mache, with bright colors and amazing themes. Lots of giant bugs. and creatures with other creatures emerging from their mouths. Some of them were pretty creepy. There were stilt walkers, too. It was great! There was even a paper mache Volkswagon being pushed by people. (Isn't that the way we usually saw them back in the 70"s?) Cute variation on the "bug" theme.
My favorite was the snail float in the picture to the right.
We also found out that "baba de caracol", (translated by my friend as "snail spit"), is used in lotions and soap. It's supposed to be really good for your skin. I brought some snail spit soap home with me, but nobody will use it. Go figure.
